Calories in karak tea: per cup, from a lab analysis
Karak tea has about 50 kcal per 100 g (about 100 ml), with 7.3 g of sugar, in a lab analysis by Bahrain's Ministry of Health [1]. The karak analysed was made with tea, evaporated milk, sugar, cardamom and saffron [1].
For example, a 250 ml cup comes to about 130 kcal and 18 g of sugar (calculated). Arabic coffee with nothing added has about 4 kcal per 100 g [1].
Per 100 g
| Drink | kcal | Protein | Fat | Carbs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Karak tea (lab analysis) [1] | 50 | 1.1 g | 1.3 g | 9.0 g |
| Gahwa, Arabic coffee with nothing added [1] | 4 | 0.1 g | 0.0 g | 0.6 g |
Per 100 g, which for these drinks is about 100 ml. Of the karak's 9.0 g of carbs, 7.3 g are sugar [1].
A cup of karak
Cups range from a small glass to a large takeaway cup. Check yours, or use these examples:
| Amount | kcal | Sugar |
|---|---|---|
| 100 ml | ≈ 50 | ≈ 7 g |
| 150 ml | ≈ 75 | ≈ 11 g |
| 250 ml | ≈ 130 | ≈ 18 g |
| 350 ml | ≈ 180 | ≈ 26 g |
Calculated from the lab analysis [1], taking 100 g as 100 ml.
What changes the number
- Sugar. Most of karak's calories are the sugar and milk, so karak made with less sugar has fewer calories than the figures above. We found no analysis of other recipes.
- The milk. The analysed karak used evaporated milk [1].
- How many cups. Three 250 ml cups a day come to about 380 kcal and 55 g of sugar (calculated).
