Count calories from a photo

Take a photo of your meal and see its calories, protein, carbohydrates and fat in seconds. Free, with no sign-up.

One free scan a day. Your photo isn't saved.

How it works

  1. Take a photo of the whole plate, or choose one you already have.
  2. The AI names each food, estimates its weight in grams and works out its macros.
  3. You get the total calories, protein, carbohydrates and fat, with a line for each food.

How accurate is a calorie count from a photo?

It's an estimate, not a lab result. Naming the food is the easy part. The weight is harder, because a photo can't show how much oil went into the rice or how deep the bowl is. Treat the number as a good starting point.

If the photo shows a nutrition label, the scan reads the printed numbers instead of estimating. For more on what the scanner does in the app, see how Voltra's AI meal scanner works.

Frequently asked

Is the scan really free?

Yes. One scan a day, with no account and no payment. The Voltra app is a separate subscription, and its yearly plan starts with a 7-day free trial.

Is my photo saved?

No. Your browser shrinks the photo and removes its location data, then sends it over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to Anthropic's Claude to read the meal. We store neither the photo nor the result. Details are in our privacy policy.

How accurate is it?

It's an estimate. It usually names the food correctly; portions and hidden oil are where it can be off. A clear photo from above, with a fork or spoon in it, helps most.

Does it know Gulf and Arabic dishes?

Yes. It names dishes like machboos, kabsa, harees and shawarma. There is also an Arabic version that answers in Arabic.

What if it gets a dish wrong?

The free scan gives one answer. In the Voltra app you can correct the food and the grams before anything is logged.

Does it work on Android or a computer?

Yes, in any up-to-date browser. The Voltra app itself is iPhone only.
