Voltra and Apple Health: what connects and how to turn it on
Voltra can read your steps, sleep, heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), workouts, weight and more from Apple Health, and uses them for your Home rings, your daily recovery and your training load. It writes back your body weight, your water, and the strength and cardio workouts you finish in Voltra.
Connecting is optional: Voltra works without it, and you choose each category on Apple's permission screen.
What Voltra reads, and what for
| From Apple Health | Used for |
|---|---|
| Steps, active calories, stand hours, walking and running distance | Home rings for your daily activity |
| Resting heart rate and HRV | Your daily recovery, which compares them with your own last 30 days, and Home rings |
| Heart rate during workouts | Strain: your training load for the day, on a 0–21 scale |
| Sleep | The sleep ring |
| Body weight and body fat | Your weight trend, and the weight and body-fat rings |
| VO₂ max, blood pressure, blood oxygen, respiratory rate, mindful minutes, water | Rings you can add to Home if you want them |
| Workouts from other apps | Today's activity and your cardio history |
What Voltra writes
- The body weight you log in Voltra
- The water you log
- The strength and cardio workouts you finish in Voltra, with their active calories, and the distance for walks, runs and rides
Voltra doesn't write your food to Apple Health: meals, calories and macros stay in Voltra.
How to turn it on
- During setup, tap Connect Apple Health. If you skipped it, tap the Apple Health card on Home.
- Apple's permission screen lists each category. Turn on the ones you want, then tap Allow.
To change it later, open the Health app, tap your profile picture, then Apps, then Voltra, and turn categories on or off.
Garmin, Oura, WHOOP and other trackers
Apple Health works as a hub: many trackers write their data into it. Turn on Apple Health sync in your Garmin, Oura or WHOOP app, and that data reaches Voltra through Apple Health. Voltra can also connect to WHOOP directly, from its settings.
Your health data
Health data is read and used on your iPhone. Voltra doesn't send it to analytics services or use it for advertising. Figures based on it go only into features you choose to use: for example, a training-strain score is part of what the AI coach sees, and the optional backup includes weigh-ins and workout heart rate. The Privacy Policy has the details.
Frequently asked
Does Voltra need Apple Health?
No. Voltra works without it; your rings and recovery just have less to go on.
Does Voltra write my food to Apple Health?
No. It writes body weight, water and workouts, but not meals, calories or macros.
I said no by mistake. How do I turn it on?
Open the Health app, tap your profile picture, then Apps, then Voltra, and turn on the categories you want.
Does it work with Garmin, Oura or WHOOP?
Yes, through Apple Health: turn on Apple Health sync in their app. WHOOP can also connect to Voltra directly.
Do I need an Apple Watch?
No. Your iPhone counts steps on its own. Heart rate, HRV and sleep need a watch or a tracker that writes to Apple Health.
